HaLong Bay

We stayed in HaNoi a few days longer than we originally planned. Our cruise on HaLong Bay was postponed due to a nasty storm affecting the North Coast. We waited out the bad weather and subsequently were rewarded with a beautiful day and overnight to experience one of Vietnam’s natural treasures. The Karst limestone formations looming out of the bay are breathtaking… Even with the hoards of other boats all dotting the waterscape. The scenery is quite like we found on south China’s Li River and in the sea around Phuket, Thailand. We kayaked and swam in the cool bay. It was a very nice 2 day cruise on HaLong Bay.

We had to touch bases back in HaNoi in order to make a rail connection to central Vietnam. Our most hospitable hotel offered us a complimentary room to relax and shower in until it was time to catch

our night train. The hotel’s driver took us and carried our luggage onto the train. With his help, it was as easy as pie.
